The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has ordered an insurer and a trailer owner to pay almost 10 times more
compensation than sought by a girl who was hit by a trailer in July 2014 in
Deonar area. The girl, who was five at that time, suffered permanent partial disability in the mishap.
The claimant, Jaibunnisa Shaikh, through her mother, had sought a compensation of Rs 2 lakh from the insurance company and the accused but the tribunal has ordered to pay her about Rs 22.5 lakh, including interest.

In a shocking development, the Mumbai Police arrested the Deputy Dean of the BMC-run Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital (LTMGH), Sion, in an alleged case of cheating a medical student, officials said here on Thursday.
The action by Sion Hospital came after a woman medico from Madhya Pradesh s Mandsaur, Dr. Alisha A. Sheikh, 28, lodged a complaint accusing the hospital officer Rakesh Ramnarain Verma, 54 of taking a bribe of Rs 50 lakh on the pretext of giving her admission for the M.D. course, which never materialised.
