Golden and Summerland have been identified as high transmission communities, along with the Rutland neighbourhood of Kelowna. “When we looked at the data it looked like Rutland had one of the lowest immunization rates in the region and they also had one of the highest infection rates in the region,” Interior Health region’s chief medical health officer Dr. Albert de Villiers said in a news briefing today, May 7. “Something that did play into it as well, Spring Valley long term, that’s also in in Rutland.”

May 06, 2021 - 5:02 PM Three people have died during the COVID-19 outbreak at the Spring Valley Seniors Community long-term care home in Kelowna. The outbreak was declared on April 28 after one resident and one staff member tested positive. As of today, May 6, there are 32 cases in the facility, including 22 residents and 10 staff, according to an Interior Health news release. Interior Health doesn’t say whether those who died were staff or residents. Spring Valley is one of three outbreaks currently in Kelowna. The Sandalwood Retirement Resort independent living facility in Kelowna has 28 cases including 26 staff. One person has died. There is also a COVID-19 outbreak at the Orchard Haven long-term care in Keremeos with two cases, one resident and one staff.
