Did you miss any of last week’s top news stories? Click on the headlines to catch up: The former pastor of St. Matthias Parish, Somerset, has pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree theft for diverting parish funds for his own personal use. Franklin Township Public Schools, following an announcement earlier this week that virtual/remote instruction will no longer be allowed come the fall, is working on plans to safely welcome students back.  A report found that impervious cover – roads, parking lots and other surfaces that don’t absorb rainfall – increased in Franklin by 30% since 2015. Feds give 2-year extension for natural gas pipeline under Raritan Bay

View Comments WASHINGTON – The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, or FERC, has given Williams Transco a two-year extension to complete the Northeast Supply Enhancement Project in Somerset and Middlesex counties and under Raritan Bay. The $1 billion project would transport natural gas from Pennsylvania to the New York City area through an underground pipeline that cuts through Hunterdon, Somerset and Middlesex counties to Raritan Bay where 23 miles of submarine pipeline will take the gas to Long Island.  The project also includes plans for a 32,000-horsepower gas compressor near the border of Franklin and South Brunswick. FERC approved the project in May 2019 with the condition it would be completed by May 2021.

U S gives Williams more time to build Pennsylvania-NY natgas line

U.S. gives Williams more time to build Pennsylvania-NY natgas line Reuters 3 hrs ago May 20 (Reuters) - U.S. energy regulators on Thursday approved Williams Companies Inc s request for two more years until May 2023 to build the proposed Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) project to transport natural gas from Pennsylvania to New York. The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved the roughly $1 billion project, which includes an offshore pipe between New Jersey and Long Island, New York, in May 2019. That approval required Williams to put the project in service by May 2021. But Williams had to put NESE on hold because environmental regulators in New York and New Jersey did not approve water permits for the project.
