Could an empire of the kitchen quietly stop cooking with beef and leave no one the wiser?
That appears to be the feat accomplished by Epicurious, the popular online recipe bank where home cooks have gone to hone their skills for a quarter of a century. The editors there revealed to readers this week that not only were they done with new recipes containing beef, but they had been phasing them out for over a year.
“We know that some people might assume that this decision signals some sort of vendetta against cows or the people who eat them,” Maggie Hoffman, a senior editor, and David Tamarkin, a former digital director, wrote in an article published on Monday. “But this decision was not made because we hate hamburgers (we don’t!).”
Agriculture Industry Opposes California’s Prop 12
Tuesday Apr 20th, 2021 Twenty states are in agreement of the North American Meat Institute’s petition challenging the constitutionality of California’s Proposition 12 (Prop 12).
Farmers and ranchers are watching Prop 12 very closely because if allowed, it has the potential to affect ag operations here in Big Sky country.
“California s Prop 12 has us concerned because they re trying to dictate how farmers and ranchers in other states can raise their animals,” said Custer rancher and Montana Farm Bureau Federation Director Casey Mott.
Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen says farmers and ranchers deal with too many regulations as it is without California trying to extend its power into other states.

There are a lot of pets that need feeding in the United States. Around 67 percent of households own at least one. Companion animals lead the pack, as 63.4 million households have dogs and 42.7 million own cats, with some overlap for those that have both.
While people continue to rescue and adopt cats and dogs, many farmed animals face a different fate as a result. Pets aren’t included as consumers in the calculations for overall US meat consumption, but animal-derived products make up a significant portion of their diet. If cats and dogs made up their own country, they would rank fifth in terms of meat consumption, according to a 2017 study published in the scientific journal
