Citing concerns over hosting a large, indoor event, the 2021 North American International Auto Show in Detroit’s TCF Center has been cancelled and in its place, an event called Motor Bella will be held at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan, allowing automakers to display their vehicles out in the open air for a week in September.

DETROIT – On Monday, the North American International Auto Show announced it will not hold the annual event in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In 2020, NAIAS also canceled the event as a result of the pandemic. The show was canceled last year after it was announced that Detroit’s TCF Center would become a temporary hospital for COVID patients.

“The new event will bring next generation mobility and exciting vehicle debuts to media, show-goers and the automotive enthusiasts’ world in a never before experienced way while also addressing continued COVID-19 concerns about indoor events,” a statement from Motor Bella read.

Organizers of the NAIAS decided in 2019 to move it to the summer, with the inaugural summer show to be held in June of 2020. Then, the pandemic hit, and the June date for the show was postponed, and then postponed again.
