Two Kenora-based businesses got a big boost from Ottawa on Thursday through just over $1.1 million in FedNor funding.
Atlantic Industries Limited, who operate on what used to be the Abitibi mill, received $903,510 to expand their operations in town and create a new corrugated metal pipe manufacturing facility.
Jason Sherwood is the VP of Operations (International and Western Canada) for the company, and says that their location in Kenora will ‘help drive further growth and create local jobs’.
The rest of the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, or FedNor, funds ($200,000) went to FSET Inc.

THUNDER BAY – The aging Fort William Gardens is set for a $1.1 million facelift, with provincial and federal funding programs coming through with nearly 80 per cent of the costs.
The upgrades, which include new ice deck flooring and a video scoreboard, will position the Gardens and adjacent Fort William Curling Club to host future events, including the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in 2022.
That national event was initially set to be hosted in the city-owned facility in 2021, before COVID-19 forced a change of plans to 2022.
The city was successful in securing grants of over $550,000 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC)’s Strategic Economic Infrastructure Fund, and $300,000 from FedNor.
