Sales Barn and hops sector get boost

The long anticipated Sales Barn is nearing completion, and recently got a visit from MPP Greg Rickford. The Rainy River Cattlemen’s Association was awarded $829,700 by the province, through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to rebuild two sales barns, install an underground watering system, purchase a new scale system and improve the loading, penning and auction areas. The funding will allow the association to host more auctions and attract Ontario beef producers to the local market. The facility’s upgrades are expected to be complete and ready for unveiling at the season’s first Cattle Auction in August.

$10 5M in provincial funding for area mining and forestry projects

The funding is being provided through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) and will support 24 projects, according to a government release issued shortly after the announcement. The funding includes: • $5 million to Certarus Ltd. in order to expand its compressed natural gas service to mining and forestry companies in Northern Ontario. This investment will support the transition to a lower carbon economy and create 41 new full-time jobs and five seasonal jobs;
