First COVID-19 vaccines given at GH hospital on Friday

The first wave of medical personnel from the North Ottawa Community Health System celebrated receiving the COVID-19 vaccination Friday morning in a repurposed clinic space at the Grand Haven hospital. “This is great,” said NOCHS Chief Medical Officer Dr. Henry Assad. “Hopefully, this will mean the beginning of the end of this virus.” “I’m excited,” said Dr. Dirk Bakker, an orthopedic surgeon at North Ottawa Community Hospital. “This was a long time in coming, but it still doesn’t mean we are free and clear.” The hospital system received its first round of its 975 vaccination doses Thursday morning, and officials said they were prepared to move on to getting the staff vaccinated.
