A $650,000 grant from the TD Bank Group will see researchers from the First Nations and Métis Health Research Network (FMHRN) which is based at USask work with partners Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) and Métis Nation-Saskatchewan (MN–S). The research is led by Dr. Caroline Tait (PhD), a medical anthropologist with expertise in gender and cultural safety in the USask College of Medicine and a member of MN–S and Dr. Simon Lambert (PhD), an Indigenous (Māori) researcher in the College of Arts and Science with expertise in Indigenous disaster risk reduction, and a member of the Tūhoe and Ngāti Ruapani tribes from Aotearoa New Zealand.

Condolences are being expressed for two prominent First Nation leaders in Saskatchewan.
FSIN Senator Theresa Stevenson and Prince Albert Grand Council Senator Ron Michel died on Monday.
“It is with great sadness that the family of Senator Theresa Stevenson announced that she had passed away,” Dutch Lerat, Vice Chief of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations, said in a statement on Tuesday.
“She will be missed by the many people who loved her dearly and by the thousands of lives she touched with her charity work and selflessness. She was married to the late Bob Stevenson and she leaves behind a legacy that has left our world a better place.”
NITHA reporting 542 active COVID-19 cases; 1,587 recoveries
The Northern Inter Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported 542 active cases of COVID-19 in their communities Friday.
The far northeast is reporting the most active cases with 169. The far northwest region is reporting the second highest number of cases with 159. The northeast zone has 115 active cases and the north central region is reporting 28.
According to NITHA there are currently eight people in hospital while 1,587 recoveries are being reported.
In far north central Saskatchewan the Athabasca Health Authority said there were 44 active cases in their communities as of Friday, an increase of one positive case from their previous report. The health authority also reported five recoveries.
