Northwest Health honors extraordinary nurses with Daisy Awards

Northwest Health has honored two nurses with Daisy Awards for extraordinary and compassionate service. The annual awards were established to honor the late J. Patrick Barnes, whose family wanted to recognize the nurses who treated him after he died at 33 in 1999 because of complications from the idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura autoimmune disease. The health care system honored Patricia (Patti) Martin, the manager of the Infusion Center at Northwest Health — Porter, with a Daisy Award. “It is difficult to find words to express my gratitude for line nurse Patti Martin at Northwest Health — Porter, said the patient who nominated here. She was my first nurse when I began cancer treatment in summer 2019. She took my first blood draw for labs and accessed my port-a-catheter the first time. I was anxious about my first port access. Patti s steady hands and gentle approach made the access absolutely painless along with every time since the first visit.

Dalhi Myers indicted on charges she used public money for herself

Richland County Councilwoman Dalhi Myers has been indicted by a state grand jury on accusations she used county funds for personal use, including a trip to Greece as well as hotel rooms, gifts for friends and family, and personal bills. The indictments were announced Friday by the South Carolina Attorney General s office. Myers, who s served as vice-chair of the council, faces 24 counts, including misconduct in office, use of official position for personal gain, embezzlement, drawing and uttering a fraudulent check (value more than $5,000) and use of campaign funds for personal expense.

Richland County councilwoman indicted on public corruption charges, suspended by governor

COLUMBIA — Richland County Council Vice Chairwoman Dalhi Myers was indicted on public corruption charges that alleged she used her government credit card to cover personal trips to Greece, Detroit and Nashville, Tenn., and pay for chocolates, books and a cellphone. The 24-count indictment, issued by the state grand jury late Thursday, also charged Myers with using campaign cash to pay an expense at her law firm. When questioned about the county expenses, Myers, a Hopkins resident who was first elected in 2016, made up false explanations for why the card purchases were legitimate county expenses, the grand jury found. December 18, 2020 By Shelley Byrne Port projects near the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers in southern Illinois and western Kentucky are moving forward, with the Illinois project expected to break ground as soon as late spring. Alexander-Cairo Port The Illinois Department of Transportation signed the first round of intergovernmental grant agreements the first week of December, formally allocating the first $4 million of the $40 million promised by the state to the Alexander-Cairo Port District. “So we’re off and running,” said Sen. Dale Fowler, who has championed the establishment of the port in his district, which includes Cairo. “That’s a very important first step.”
