Magilligan Prison near Limavady in Co Londonderry (PA)
The Northern Ireland Prison Service provided “appropriate care” to killer Fred McClenaghan before his death, a watchdog has found.
The 57-year-old died at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast on October 21 2018 after falling ill at Magilligan Prison.
Prisoner Ombudsman Dr Lesley Carroll investigated the circumstances and events leading up to his death, and found that appropriate care had been given to McClenaghan.
A port-mortem examination found that his death was caused by a ruptured aneurysm.
McClenaghan had collapsed in prison five days before his death.
An independent clinical review and expert opinion from a consultant neurosurgeon informed the ombudsman’s investigation that an earlier referral to hospital was unlikely to have resulted in a different outcome.

A new route from Belfast City Airport to Cardiff is to launch this summer.
Stobart Air, operator of Aer Lingus Regional routes, confirmed flights to the Welsh capital will commence on 28 June and will operate up to four times a week.
The airline currently flies from Belfast City Airport to Birmingham, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Exeter, Leeds Bradford, London Heathrow, and Manchester, and recently announced it would commence a summer service to popular staycation destination, Newquay.

Nigel Dodds To Step Down As DUP Deputy Leader Nigel Dodds has announced he is to step down as deputy leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP).
He said he will not be seeking re-election when the position and leadership role are voted on next Friday.
Lord Dodds said: Following my appointment to the House of Lords I decided that I would be stepping back from my party role whenever the next internal election cycle occurred. Since, under the party rules, Peers are not even part of the party’s electoral college for leadership positions, it would be incongruous and inappropriate to do otherwise.
L Derry Sinn Fein MLAs Will Not Stand For Party At Next Assembly Election Sinn Fein MLAs Martina Anderson and Karen Mullan will not stand for the party at the next assembly election.
The decision was made after a party review revealed election disappointments in L Derry.
