Parents at Providence High School say they re disappointed with a decision that prevents them from attending the school s spring show, while the parents of student athletes will be allowed to attend indoor sporting events and other athletic competitions. If it s safe to put people in a gym, it s safe to put people in an auditorium in family pods far away from each other, said Mitzi Lynch, a parent and president of the school s drama booster club. There s really no difference.
Another parent, Jessica Daitch, who is also treasurer of the school s drama booster club, called the decision arbitrary and completely unfair, and said the school district was employing two sets of standards one for athletes, and one for non-athletes.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Mecklenburg County Public Health Director Gibbie Harris says the latest COVID-19 metrics are stable in the community, but they re not exactly where she d like them to be as North Carolina turns the corner into summer.
Harris is provided updates in a Thursday afternoon briefing, a day after North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced more COVID-19 restrictions would be lifted as the summer season neared. In previous updates, Harris and county Medical Director Dr. Meg Sullivan expressed concerns about plateauing rates of vaccination, but both were optimistic with the approval to restart the use of the single Johnson

A black man who died during an attempted arrest in North Carolina was shot five times by police, including once in the back of the head, his family s lawyers say.
An independent post-mortem found 42-year-old Andrew Brown Jr was killed by a bullet in the rear of the skull as he drove away from sheriff s deputies, according to his relatives legal team.
