Asheville Joins In Honoring Of COVID-19 Victims
(Asheville, NC) Asheville is honoring victims of COVID-19. Yesterday, the city was one of many across the country to take part in a movement to remember the 400-thousand lives lost due to the virus in the U.S. City Hall and Harrah s Cherokee Center lit up for the evening. Around 230 people have died in Buncombe.
Cawthorn Facing Pressure Over Comments
(Hendersonville, NC) A new western North Carolina Congressman is facing increasing heat over his comments surrounding the Capitol riots. The Citizen-Times is reporting Republican Madison Cawthorn called in to a radio show in the middle of the riots at the U.S. Capitol to blame the events on what he called people paid by the Democratic machines. It was just earlier in the day when Cawthorn appeared at a pro-Trump rally and praised the crowd for having fight in it. The guard sending people to the nation s capital is nothing new. It happens every four years. The difference is that in the past, the units were communications or civil support and never more than 20.

Those guardsman will specifically be assisting the D.C. Metro Police. They re stationed at six Metro stops and are on call for engagement, which means, if there were to be an attack, the NC guard is the primary backup.

Vaccine Appointments Widen In Buncombe
(Buncbome County, NC) Appointments for COVID-19 vaccines are opening up this week to more people in Buncombe County. Healthcare workers and residents aged 65-and-over are eligible to sign up for doses, which will be given starting February 1st. Health officials tell WLOS-TV around three-thousand vaccines have been administered so far, with around that many expected to be given this week. The state opened up vaccines for North Carolinians at least 65-years old last week.
