The North Carolina State Highway Patrol was called to the interstate near US 421 at 12:22 p.m.Sign up for our Newsletters Troopers said a Ford Escape and a tractor-trailer were traveling northbound when the vehicle collided with the tractor-trailer and went off the road to the left. The tractor-trailer overturned in the roadway, blocking all lanes. A 14-year-old and a 5-year-old in the Ford died and a woman and a 9-year-old, who were other passengers in the vehicle, were taken to the hospital, deputies said. The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital. Their conditions are unclear at this time.

NC Dept of Insurance investigate Richlands man for setting house on fire

Officials with the North Carolina Department of Insurance s Criminal Investigations Division are looking into the alleged actions of a Richlands man involving a house fire and insurance money.  On May 2, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol arrested Kenneth Lawson Reynolds, 40, of 315 Scranton Court in Richlands, and charged him with fraudulently burning a dwelling, insurance fraud, and obtaining property by false pretense, all felonies. He was given a $125,000 secured bond. North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest.  According to the arrest warrant obtained by The Daily News, the date of the fire was May 25, 2020 and was reported at 2:39 p.m.
