Controversy over COVID vaccinations
CHARLOTTE â A North Carolina health care system said it is delaying COVID-19 vaccinations scheduled for next month after a controversy arose over who would get the initial round of doses.
Atrium Health said up to 97 vaccination appointments slated for January have been canceled, The Charlotte Observer reported. The action followed a report by several Charlotte television stations which cited a tweet by Atrium social media manager Katie McKiever saying she had scheduled her first vaccine appointment for early January.
According to guidance published in October, health care workers and medical first responders should get the vaccine first.
NC Highway Patrol Enforcing 2020 Booze It And Loose It Over Holidays Published: 21 December 2020
With the holiday season in full swing, the North Carolina Highway Patrol will be looking to curb the unexpected increase in fatal collisions experienced in 2020.
The anticipated increase in vehicle traffic over the holidays will require all across North Carolina to practice safe driving habits.
Last year, troopers responded to 2,970 collisions between the dates of Dec. 24 through Jan. 2. Among those collisions, 745 were injury related and 27 resulted in a fatality.
This year, the SHP hopes to decrease the number of collisions during the same time frame by focusing on violations such as excessive speeding, reckless driving, following too close and impaired driving.
