L.A. Public Health Encourages COVID-19 Safety Measures As Variants Are Detected
Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH) officials announced Wednesday that COVID-19 variants continue to be found while L.A. County’s’ case rate remains low and stable.
LADPH officials announced Monday that the risk of death by COVID-19 for those fully vaccinated is 1 in a million, comparative to 1-500 without the vaccine. The most commonly circulated variants found in L.A. are the UK variant and the California variant, highlighting the need for L.A. County residents to continue taking precautionary COVID-19 safety measures.
“The risk of having a serious side effect from COVID-19 vaccination is about 1 in a million,” said Barbara Ferrer, Director of Public Health. “If you’re looking for a way to dramatically reduce your risk of getting infected with COVID-19 or dying from infection, getting a vaccine is an exceptionally powerful tool for doing that.”
