Saraighat Printers Owner Ashwini Kr Sarma Passes Away in Guwahati
Ashwini Kumar Sarma, the owner of the Saraighat Printers in Ambari, Guwahati breathed his last at the age of 74.

GUWAHATI: Ashwini Kumar Sarma, the owner of the Saraighat Printers in Ambari, Guwahati breathed his last at the age of 74.
Sarma was admitted to a city based hospital and succumb to COVID-19 infection. Popularly known as Sahab Da is a resident of Kharghuli took active part during the Assam Agitation.
It is to be mentioned here that during the Assam Agitation most of the documentation and releases were printed at the Saraighat Printers in Guwahati and records of the same can be found till date. Further all the releases and documents related to the All Assam Students Union and North East Students Organisation (NESO) are still printed at the very same press.

Senior journalist and New Delhi Bureau Chief of the Assam Tribune Kalyan Barooah passed away on Saturday after battling with a COVID-19 infection.

GUWAHATI: Senior journalist and New Delhi Bureau Chief of the Assam Tribune Kalyan Barooah passed away on Saturday after battling with a COVID-19 infection. He breathed his last at a private hospital in New Delhi. Barooah s wife Nilakshi Bhattacharyya also succumbed to a COVID-19 infection on Friday.
Both Barooah and Bhattacharyya worked with The Sentinel in the early part of their journalism career. Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal have deeply condoled the death and said the State has lost brilliant journalists. The North East Students Organization, All Assam Students Union and All Guwahati Students Union have also mourned the deaths.

The anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests that had been suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic have returned in the northeast. On Friday, Northeast Students Organisation (NESO) organised black flag protests against the law in many places.
The North East Students Organisation (NESO) which comprises the Khasi Students Union (KSU), All Assam Students Union (AASU), Naga Students Federation (NSF), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Twipra Students Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), Garo Students Union (GSU) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU), representing eight states of the north-east regio
Leading organisations and citizens’ groups in Assam on Saturday not only paid tributes to the five martyrs of the anti-CAA movement in the state but also staged protests and meetings seeking the repeal of the contentious law, a high level probe into the deaths and release of anti-CAA activists.
The All Assam Students Union (AASU), Kriskak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), Coordination Committee Against Citizenship Amendment Act (CCACAA), Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad and Lachit Sena were among the organisations that marked the death anniversary of the martyrs with a renewed pledge to carry on the fight against the “anti-Assam” and “unconstitutional” CAA, which is seen as a threat to the identity and culture of the people of the Northeast.

The students organization vowed to carry out a vigorous movement till the CAA that paves the way for granting citizenship to Hindu and other non-Muslim minorities from the neighbouring Bangladesh, is repealed.
