More than two in five staff at the North Cumbria Integrated Care Trust felt ill due to work-related stress as the coronavirus pandemic took hold last year, according to a survey. The annual NHS staff survey has revealed the toll of the Covid-19 crisis on staff at trusts across England, who faced huge pressures as hospital admissions surged. At North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, 43% of staff who responded to the 2020 survey said they had felt unwell in the past 12 months as a result of work-related stress. Across England as a whole, 44% of NHS staff said they had been unwell due to work-related stress last year, compared to 40% the year before.

North Cumbria continues to help lead the way in COVID-19 studies with its NHS trust confirmed as one of the top recruiters in a study to track infection in NHS staff.
The SIREN (Sarscov2 Immunity & REinfection EvaluatioN) studyâs overall aim is to determine if prior infection of COVID-19 can provide future immunity to reinfection.
Following the rollout of vaccinations amongst healthcare workers, SIREN will be leading the way in providing estimates of vaccine effectiveness.
