The community of Collinsville has enjoyed an inspiring visit from a former NRL star, all in the name of resilience-building.
Former North Queensland Cowboy Ray Thompson visited four Collinsville schools and hosted a community evening session last week, sharing evidence-based mental health strategies emphasising the power of gratitude, empathy and mindfulness.
It was all thanks to a collaboration between the Cowboys, the Collinsville Community Association, and Australian schools program called The Resilience Project, which aims to empower teachers with curriculum-based program resources, activities and knowledge to help inspire and educate their students.
Mr Thompson said he was happy to use his profile to promote positive wellbeing and help young people, as well as their teachers and carers, âbounce back from adversityâ.

Mike Hosking: The Warriors latest win shows this is our year
Here is all you need to know: The Warriors are 7
th, in the top 8. From 12
th to 7
th. This is our year!
The game was not what it should have been. The Cowboys are a solid side. We entered the match on the same points.
But first half looked a league above them - 24-6 at half time.
Completed our sets. Reece Walsh looks the find of the season. We were slick, there were few if any mistakes, and although you never get ahead of yourself, the game was over.

A 24-4 half-time lead proved to be just enough for a Warriors team that now has four wins from eight matches this season.
After showing promise during his NRL debut at fullback in a heavy loss to the Storm last week, Reece Walsh was moved into the front line at five-eighth in a move which served to increase his involvement, and effectiveness.
He made a couple of errors that can be put down to youthful inexperience after the break, but there was still more than enough to suggest the Warriors have someone they will be able to rely on for years to come.
