Congress passed a $900 billion COVID-19 relief bill Monday that includes funding for direct stimulus checks, supplemental unemployment benefits, and more funding for businesses.
“While this compromise legislation does not go far enough to protect all vulnerable Americans, it is a start, and I’m hopeful the new administration will be able to build upon this bipartisan effort to craft a more comprehensive assistance package early next year,” County Supervisor Gregg Hart said during a Tuesday COVID-19 briefing.
Rep. Salud Carbajal, D-Santa Barbara, voted for the bill, and said in a statement that “more help is on the way” as businesses are forced to close, families face eviction and food insecurity, and hospitals fill with COVID-19 patients.

Player of the Decade: David Terrones helped spark epic Cabrillo turnaround [Santa Maria Times, Calif.]
Dec. 15 Player Profile: David Terrones
Cabrillo PG (2006-10) Averaged 20 points, 6.7 assists, 4.3 steals Named 2009-10 All-Area MVP Led CHS to 12-0 LPL record, league title
A telltale sign of a player’s greatness is when opposing coaches respect them as much as their own.
David Terrones had that trait.
Of course, playing at Cabrillo High before graduating in 2010, Terrones had the respect of his own former coach Gary West. But coaches from other teams had similar feelings to the former standout guard.
When polling current and former coaches on some of the area’s top players from the past decade, multiple opposing coaches mentioned Terrones, who was quickly brought up by West.

The Central Coast Coalition of Chambers released their monthly results to gauge the impact of COVID-19 on local businesses. Since May, nearly 2,400 businesses between San Miguel and Solvang have responded.
The latest survey results from November 9-30 found that nearly 30% of employers plan to hire in the next month, but many are still struggling.
âRight around the start of COVID, we started a survey regionally because we were all doing our own individual ones so we ended up doing this regional survey with all of us combined so we could get a better feeling for the whole region, said Jim Dantona, San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce President and CEO.
