Rick Davis has served as the executive director of the 1891 Fredonia Opera House since 2005. Although the Opera House hasn’t had any events since the pandemic began, they’re as busy as ever, getting ready for when things do return.
Two years ago, the village of Fredonia received a $2.5 million grant, of which $1.3 was for the Opera House’s remodeling. Davis called the timing of the pandemic “fortuitous,” noting that they’ve been able to use their downtime to completely gut and remodel the bathrooms, replace the windows and do some heating, ventilation and air conditioning work.

The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation will accept Letters of Interest to the Community Benefit Grant program until March 1, 2021.
Proposals must efficiently and effectively address identified community needs or encourage new opportunities. Letters seeking eligibility should include the following information. 1) A brief project description, including how this project furthers the agency mission. 2) What the anticipated and measurable impacts of the project are, including the number of people who might benefit, specific community benefits, or both. 3) The total project cost and the specific amount requested. 4) The signature of the Executive Director or President and the name and contact information for the primary person responsible for the proposal. Letters should not exceed two pages in length and submitted through e-mail to eardillo@nccfoundation.org.

The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation recently approved additional COVID relief support of $101,434 to 16 nonprofit organizations that experienced critical program needs, reopening expenses, and required operational support due to revenue losses.
Through this program, the following organizations received grants: 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center, live Streaming Technology; Chautauqua County Adult Day Services, Reopening Expenses; Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System, North County Digital Summer Reading Programs and Technology Support; Chautauqua Lake Child Care Center, Operating Expenses; Compeer Chautauqua, Youth Program Support; Lily Dale Assembly, Operating Support; Marine Toys for Tots, Holiday Toy Drive; Mercy Flight, Emergency Medical Transportation Support; Learning Disabilities of WNY, Habilitation/Vocational Support; National Comedy Center, Project LaughSafe; Prevention Works, Program Moving Expenses; Chautauqua County Rural Minist
