That’s how Escambia County Director of Library Services Todd Humble describes the newly renovated library.
“We are pleased to present a bright, open and airy space for our residents to enjoy within the Century Branch Library. The design concept behind this renovation was to represent nature,” Humble said as he describe the new, modern look of the library. “The paint color on the walls is blue to simulate the sky and the carpet pattern was chosen to simulate a patio. The color of the furniture was selected for a bright contemporary look, which will include orange, green and light blue colors.”

A new Dollar General is the works for Century.
The development review process is underway for the new store in the 7000 block of North Century Boulevard, on the west side of the road between Highway 4A and West Hecker Road.
According to plans for the proposed store, it will be 9,291 square feet on about 1.5 acres. It will have 31 total parking space, with entrances from North Century Boulevard and West Hecker Road. The developer has told the town that they will remove 17 trees from the property. They plan to replant those 17 trees at the site, along with five flowering trees and 15 shade trees in the Nadine McCaw Park on North Century Boulevard, just northeast of the planned store.

The Escambia County Commission has approved property purchases for two North Escambia paving projects.
The BOCC voted to acquire about one-third of an acre located in the northeast corner of Pine Barren Church Road and West Highway 4 near Davisville and 2.4 acres along Salters Lake Road near Century for a 50 foot easement. The total cost for both properties from Seven States Timberlands, LLC is $10,000.
Pine Barren Church Road runs from West Highway 4 to Highway 97. About 5,300 linear feet is dirt and part of Escambia County’s Dirt Road Paving Program. County crews will prepare the road base, while the paving and striping work will be contracted out. The property acquisition will allow the project to move forward.
