Twenty-three yards from the far chain, 44 yards from the goal line, Trey Lance crouched in shotgun formation intending to pass to the right. Jimmy Kepouros lined up wide left, processing the situation: third down, start of the fourth quarter, his and Lance s undefeated squad up eight in the 2020 FCS national championship game. Teeing up a field-goal attempt might have padded the lead, provided Lance was inclined to settle for the safe play. But no receiver got open, so he sprinted forward, ball in hand, and no defender so much as laid a finger on him.

With the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft sporting quite the talented quarterback class, former North Dakota State Bison quarterback Trey Lance has become somewhat of an afterthought in NFL news despite the fact that the collegiate standout could very well come off the board inside the top 10 come late April.
Thanks to the presence of Clemson Tigers’ Trevor Lawrence, BYU Cougars’ Zach Wilson, Ohio State Buckeyes’ Justin Fields, and Alabama Crimson Tide’s Mac Jones, Lance could potentially become the fifth signal caller off the board while still becoming a very early first round pick.
Even with this quintet serving as the cream of the crop in terms of this year’s NFL Draft class, some continue to argue that Lance is the third-best of the group. If just one NFL franchise thinks the same, Lance may fall to a quarterback-needy team inside the top five, let alone the top 10. Then again, it might mean nothing at all.

The New Orleans Saints have selected 90 players in the NFL draft since Sean Payton took over as head coach in 2006. Only three of those players played their college football in the state of Louisiana. Defensive lineman Al Woods (4th round, 2010) and offensive lineman Will Clapp (7th round, 2018) were drafted from LSU. Louisiana Tech RB Boston Scott was also added with a 6th round choice in 2018.
The New Orleans Saints also need a linebacker. They’ve drafted 12 linebackers since Payton s arrival, five of those within the first three rounds. Only often injured Alex Anzalone made any lasting impact from those selections.
