Old Haliburton Complex to Become Southwest CTE Academy Several schools in southwest North Dakota are working with lawmakers, industry representatives and communities to turn a former Halliburton complex into a multi-million dollar training ground for technical careers. April 22, 2021 •  (TNS) A joint effort between Dickinson Public Schools, other area schools, legislators, industry representatives and community members have transformed the former Halliburton complex into the Southwest Career and Technical Education Academy. Currently, officials are awaiting nonprofit status approval from the state and federal government to launch its mission. Since March of 2020, DPS, Dickinson State University, Trinity Catholic Schools, the Roughrider Area Career and Technical Center have teamed up to create a task force of 22 members to jumpstart the project. North Dakota universities don’t plan on requiring COVID-19 vaccine Dylan Sherman BISMARCK Universities in North Dakota have required students to get certain vaccines, but the COVID-19 vaccine will not be one of them. Across the nation universities are facing similar dilemmas, with responses ranging from requiring students to receive the vaccine to making it a recommendation. Jerry Rostad, vice chancellor for the North Dakota University System, said they are doing everything they can to encourage students and staff to get vaccinated. “When you look at what the Centers for Disease Control and our public health officials are saying, vaccinations are important in developing herd immunity in the fight against COVID-19,” he said.
