Charleroi woman wanted in alleged North Union Township stabbing

A Charleroi woman is wanted for allegedly trying to stab two women at a North Union Township apartment on Friday. State police said Ambrea A. Taylor went to Taneia Miller’s Woodview Terrace apartment around 11 a.m. A complaint filed in the case indicated Taylor’s boyfriend was at Miller’s apartment at the time. While there, police said, Taylor grabbed a kitchen knife and tried to stab Miller. According to court paperwork, Miller grabbed the knife to stop from being injured, and sustained a small cut to her right middle finger. Police said Miller’s sister, whose name was redacted from the complaint, also sustained minor cuts trying to remove Taylor from the apartment.

North Union receives $400k in funding to restore, stabilize streambanks

North Union Township has been awarded $400,000 in state funding to restore and stabilize two local streambanks, which will protect water supplies and improve public safety. The township received a $200,000 grant to restore and stabilize 135 linear feet of streambank along a tributary that flows into the Redstone Creek Watershed. Water run-off has caused continuous erosion during high stream water flow, resulting in embankment failure putting sediment and other pollutants into the tributary below. A soil nailing wall and bio-engineered riprap will be installed into the slope of the streambank to reinforce the structural support. The bank slope will be planted with hydroseed and live willow stalks to further support the streambank and reduce the sediment and pollution to improve water quality.

Body of missing Uniontown woman found Wednesday

The body of a 62-year-old Uniontown woman who was missing for more than two months was found on Wednesday. Melanie McCay Prokop went missing on New Year’s Day, after she was seen driving her car in Uniontown. “As of right now, there are no signs of foul play,” Trooper Robert Broadwater said Thursday. “However, police are still investigating.” Prokop’s vehicle was found on Jumonville Road in North Union Township shortly after she disappeared, and members of her family traveled to the area to organize searches for her. A volunteer in the search effort was using his own drone to search a wooded area Wednesday, and notified police he believed he found her body in an area off of Kennedy Road in North Union Township. That was a little more than one mile from where Prokop’s vehicle was found.

A woman missing from Fayette County since January was found dead, according to state police. Melanie Prokop, 62, was found Wednesday evening in a wooded area off Kennedy Road in North Union Township, police said. Prokop, who was last seen Jan. 1 driving her white vehicle, was reported missing Jan. 2 by a family member after her vehicle was found on private property along Jumonville Road in North Union, according to Uniontown police. The discovery prompted an “extensive search,” police said. A man aiding in the search for Prokop was using his drone Wednesday and reported to officers he believed he had found Prokop’s body.
