Portia Fleming fell asleep on the couch at her home at Finley Point Estates watching a movie Saturday night, only to be awakened by her daughter warning of the Boulder 2700 fire nearing their property.
As she approached her window, she saw the fire burning just east of her home. Ash fell from the night sky, settling like soft snow on the ground outside.
Fleming sprang into action and got dressed before heading to the nearby fire department for an update. She arrived at the fire department around 11:20 p.m. and was told she didnât need to evacuate yet.

When the Boulder 2700 fire flared up early Sunday, firefighters with the Finley Point-Yellow Bay Fire Department were some of the first at the scene as high winds shifted the wildfire out of control; some volunteer firefighters worked 35-plus straight hours to help save their neighbor s homes.

east of Flathead Lake near Polson has burned 8 primary structures and 17 secondary structures as of this afternoon, according to incident officials. Evacuation orders issued July 31 for residents along Highway 35 from mile marker 6 to 13 on the east side of Flathead Lake, including all of Finley Point, remain in effect.

The Northern Rockies Incident Management Team 4 took command of the Boulder 2700 Fire from the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Division of Fire Monday morning. Public Information Officer Christine Kolinski says Crews are protecting structures within the fire area, beginning to establish containment lines on the north and south flanks of the fire and working to restore power to 300 homes in the Finley Point and evacuation area.

GREAT FALLS â Here is the latest information on several large wildfires burning south of Great Falls. As of Friday, there have been no reported injuries or damaged structures.
The
Harris Mountain Fire has burned an estimated 26,478 acres as Friday morning (July 30), and is about 13% contained. The fire was sparked by lightning on Friday, July 23, and is about seven miles south/southeast of the town of Cascade. A community meeting will be held Saturday, July 31, at 10 a.m. at Wedsworth Hall (13 Front Street South) in Cascade. Northern Rockies Incident Management Team 7 will provide an update on the fire. Approximately 60 residences have been affected by evacuation orders and notifications. No new evacuation orders or notifications have been issued since July 26th. On Monday, July 26th, the Cascade County Sheriff s Office issued MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDERS for all residents south of mile marker 7
