Report Illegal Charges At Health Facilities - NHIA

  The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has appealed to members of the public to report illegal charges at health facilities for appropriate action and redress. Mr Abdul Latif Issahaque, Northern Regional Director of NHIA, said charging for services covered by the NHIS was a cost to the subscribers and the NHIA. He said such practices defeated the purpose of the health insurance scheme, which was instituted to make health care available and affordable to all. Mr Issahaque was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Tamale in reaction to some NHIS subscribers complaints of payments at health facilities to receive treatment even though their subscriptions had not expired.

Women Hailed For Their Roles In Combating COVID-19 Pandemic

  The Northern Regional Director of the Department of Gender, Ms Alhassan Bushira has hailed the various roles women played at the family, community, institutional and national levels in combating the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country. According to her, women stood at the front lines of the COVID-19 crises as health workers, care givers , community organisers and as some of the most exemplary and effective national leaders in combating the pandemic. Speaking at a coordination programme held in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital on Monday, March 8, 2021, Ms Bushira, stated that women leaders and women s organisations both at the national and international level also demonstrated their skills, knowledge and networks to effectively lead in COVID-19 response and recovery efforts.

COVID-19 Increases Risks Of Violence Against Women

  The COVID-19 has increased the risks of sexual and gender-based violence against women in the Northern Region, Madam Bushira Alhassan, Northern Regional Director, Department of Gender, Children and Social Protection, has said. She said in an epidemic such as the Covid-19, women and girls were at higher risk of experiencing intimation and other forms of domestic violence due to heightened tensions in the household. Madam Alhassan said this on the International Women’s Day (IWD), organised by her Department, in partnership with the Savannah Women Integrated Development Agency (SWIDA), Pan African Organisation for Research and Protection of Women and Children against Violence (PAORP-VAWG) and Songtaba organisation.
