COVID-19 vaccine slated for veterans on the Hi-Line is unloaded from shipment early Thursday morning at the Hill County/Havre Airport. A vaccination clinic was slated for veterans today at Merril Lundman Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic in Havre Holiday Village Mall and another clinic for people ages 70 and older was set up in the former Famous Footwear location in the mall.
In the midst of COVID-19 vaccine being distributed for Phase 1B of the state rollout and local reservations also moving forward with vaccinations, a local school has had to shut down due to an outbreak of the disease.
Health board hopes any surge in COVID cases can be contained

Hill County Public Health Director Kim Larson said a good chance exists that the recent rescinding of statewide public health mandates by Gov. Greg Gianforte will result in a surge in cases, but couldn’t speak to its severity and encouraged everyone to continue to be careful not to spread the virus. Gianforte’s new mandate eliminated former Gov. Steve Bullocks requirement including on business capacity, that restaurants, bars, breweries, distilleries and casinos close by 10 p.m. and that public gatherings be limited to 25 people, but Gianforte kept mask requirements in place.

Vaccination planning in the area continue to move forward, with Havre Public Schools’ employees set for vaccination this week and vaccinations for area veterans to start next week with the opening of the new location of the Merril Lundman Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic in the Holiday Village Mall. Schedules had to be revised after Gov. Greg Gianforte last week announced major revisions to the vaccination schedule, increasing the age-range allowed under Schedule 1B from 75 and older to 70 and older and adding people ages 16 to 69 with underlying health conditions.
Region deals with a year of a deadly virus

A sign on the 400 Block of First Street lists the number of COVID-19-related deaths in Hill County.
Vaccine for the virus that causes COVID-19 is arriving in the area at a time when people appear to have taken actions to slow the spread of the virus following surges over the summer and a massive surge in the fall. But officials are warning people that it may be months before the vaccine is available for much of the general population, and they need to continue following recommendations - wearing masks in public settings, avoiding large gatherings, staying home as much as possible, regularly washing their hands, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and staying home if they are ill - to keep the spread down.
