Northern Regional Police to start using BolaWrap restraint devices

The Empire Strikes Back by shooting a cord into the walking monstrosity s legs and then flying around it until the cord tightened and the beast fell. That was the stuff of movies, but now the same concept has come to modern policing. This week, Northern York County Regional Police began a testing and evaluation period for the BolaWrap, a handheld device designed to restrain suspects. They appear to be the first department in York County to do so. Think of the BolaWrap as simply another tool on Batman s belt. According to the BolaWrap website, the remote handcuffs device shoots out an 8-foot Kevlar tether that wraps around a suspect s legs or arm, fired from a range of 10 to 25 feet.
