Oil furnace sparked York County fire that killed 88-year-old man Updated Jan 11, 2021; The York County Coroner identified a man who died in his Jackson Township home last week when it caught fire as Walter Krout, 88. Krout was working on an oil furnace when his home in the 6300 block of Pine Road caught fire around 11:16 a.m. on Jan. 7, according to the coroner’s office. He attempted to put the fire out but was not able to, the coroner’s office said. Krout was pronounced dead at WellSpan Hospital in York later that evening. Krout’s death was ruled accidental, caused by inhalation burns, according to the coroner’s office.

Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run in York County identified: coroner Updated Dec 19, 2020; Norman Mann III, of York City, was identified as the man killed in a hit-and-run crash on Route 30 in front of National Tire and Battery in Manchester Township Saturday morning. Mann wasn’t near or in a crosswalk in the area of 401 Loucks Road, according to the York County Coroner’s Office. The incident happened around 1:22 a.m. The 40-year-old was struck when he tried to cross Route 30 eastbound. The driver fled the scene. Mann was pronounced dead at 2:10 a.m. His cause of death and manner of death are pending. An autopsy has been scheduled for at 8 a.m. on Monday at Lehigh Valley Hospital.
