Roadworks on the A19 near Selby on course to end next Summer

North Yorkshire County Council Leader, Councillor Carl Les (left) and Nigel Adams MP ROADWORKS to rebuild a section of the A19 in North Yorkshire are on course to be completed by next Summer, maybe even sooner. A section of the A19 near Selby between Chapel Haddlesey and Wand Lane at Eggborough was washed away during Storm Dennis back in February, resulting in the need for a significant reconstruction project. North Yorkshire County Council highways team inspected the site as quickly as possible, appointed a contractor, drew up plans and began the work soon after. Now the road is scheduled to be reopened by June 25 2021. The plan includes contingencies so it is hoped work can be completed earlier.

And the project has won further support from two York business leaders. The scheme would see a new Roman visitor attraction built on Rougier Street, along with apartments, offices, shops and leisure space which could include a bar, restaurant or music venue. A planning application submitted to City of York Council is set to be decided in the new year - but in response to comments on the scheme the designs have been changed again. Alterations include reducing the size of the building on the Tanner Row side and creating more distinct elements to the building to break down its mass appearance.
