Quesnel Council seeks funding to see if new airport hangar makes sense SHARE ON: Quesnel Airport (GHenderson-MyCaribooNow-staff) Quesnel City Council has approved a funding application to the Northern Development Initiative Trust to look into the possibility of building a new hangar out at the airport. It is for a 10 thousand dollar grant from NDI’s Capital Investment Analysis funding program. Lindsay Blair is the City’s Community Development Coordinator. “This project is for an airport hangar investment analysis which will provide a business case and estimate the expected cash flow of a new hangar, access the riskiness of those flows, determine the need for a new airport hangar, estimate the appropriate opportunity cost of capital, and determine the project’s profitability and break even characteristics.”

These stats have been boosted by activity on three major pipelines that are going up within the Regional District and are the main why the stats in 2020 are almost three times building permit values of 2019.”

The Williams Lake First Nations (WLFN) was highlighted for their Cannabis Cultivation Facility project. Northern Development has committed $250,000 towards the$1.1 million project through the former Economic Diversification Infrastructure funding program. The cultivation facility will create new jobs and allow Williams Lake First Nation to diversify away from some of the traditional industries that have been negatively impacted by recent wildfires in the area.

City of Williams Lake applies for two NDIT grants SHARE ON: The City of Williams Lake is applying for two Northern Development Initiative Trust grants. The City applied for $8,000 under the Grant Writing Support program and $50,000 under the Economic Development Capacity Building Program. The Grant Writing Support program would support the City by researching grant programs, tracking deadlines for grant reporting, preparing funding applications to the agencies, foundations, and government programs to access more funding dollars to support crucial City projects and initiatives. In 2019 and 2020, the City acquired $3 million from various grant programs, excluding the Gas Tax Program ($500,000) and the COVID-19 Safe Restart Grant ($2.6 million), Summer Student Programs ($40,000) and Recreation Centre grants. The City is planning to fund a significant portion of its capital expenditures through grants in 2021.
