Class Acts: Theater Now

LYNDON CENTER — In our last Class Acts, we looked at how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted Lyndon Institute’s Dance and Music programs. This week, we examine our school’s other performing art — Drama. One of my favorite places on the Lyndon Institute campus is Alumni Auditorium. Aside from the colorful flags now lining the walls representing the 46 different native countries of students who have lived and studied at LI since our boarding program reopened, the space looks pretty much the same as when I was a student here over 30 years ago. The Spice on Snow traditional music festival celebrated its 10th year, also in the capital. Vermont Stage, the Burlington professional theater, mounted excellent productions of “Relativity,” by Mark St. Germain — in which Ron Crawford became Albert Einstein — and “Marie and Rosetta,” the rockin’ gospel of Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

Vermont briefs: Hospital says cyberattack was ransomware; schools may merge accreditation  The Associated Press Modified: 12/23/2020 8:50:12 PM BURLINGTON A Vermont-based hospital network is now saying a cyberattack that crippled its computer systems in October was ransomware. While the Burlington-based University of Vermont Health Network, which serves hospitals in Vermont and upstate New York, had said its systems were attacked on Oct. 28, officials had not confirmed the attack that disabled the system’s 600 applications was ransomware. On Tuesday, hospital officials said its information technology workers found a file directing them to contact the attackers if they wanted their systems restored, but it did not contain a request for money.
