Major step forward for North Wales growth Deal | North Wales Chronicle

The £1billion North Wales Growth Deal has taken a major step forward with the final agreement being signed, backed by £120m each from the UK and Welsh Governments. The Isle of Anglesey will be the home of one of the first projects to benefit from the funding. Morlais, Anglesey Marine Energy, which is a Menter Môn project, will receive £9m from the Growth Deal which will unlock a further £26m from the Welsh European Funding Office, allowing the programme of work to progress. The project, which is based off Holy Island, will have the potential to become one of the largest tidal stream energy sites in the world with a generating capacity of up to 240MW of clean electricity.

The Leader previously reported that Wales will be facing level 4 restrictions as the coronavirus risk rises to very high . This means all non-essential retail, including close contact services and all leisure and fitness centres will close at the end of trading on Christmas Eve. All hospitality premises will close from 6pm on Christmas Day and tighter restrictions on household mixing, staying-at-home, holiday accommodation and travel will apply from December 28, after the five-day Christmas period. Businesses have already faced much torment and uncertainty over the course of the pandemic.

UK Government signs North Wales Growth Deal English From: 17 December 2020 THOUSANDS of jobs will be created and the economy given a multi-billion pound boost after the ground-breaking North Wales Growth Deal was given the green light by both the UK and Welsh Governments. Work will now begin on the five programmes that make up the £1bn Deal. Led by North Wales Economic Ambition Board – a collaboration of the region’s six councils, two universities, two colleges and private sector representatives – the programmes are made up of 14 projects covering low carbon energy, innovation in high-value manufacturing, agri-food and tourism, digital connectivity and land and property.
