Wednesday, April 14, 2021   View Larger + Mark J. Hardiman, 67, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday after complications from recent surgery. He leaves his loving wife of 38 years, Kathleen A. ( McCartin ) Hardiman. Mark is also survived by his cousin Jeffrey J. Hardiman and his wife Linda and their children John J. and Sarah E. Hardiman of Cranston, several nieces, nephews, relatives, and good friends. Born in Providence he was the son of the late James E. and Agnes V. ( Wood ) Hardiman. Mark was a history teacher at North Smithfield High School for 30 years until his retirement. He and Kathy thoroughly enjoyed taking several groups of his students on European adventures over the span of his career.

(Breeze photo by Lauren Clem) NORTH SMITHFIELD – Farming will soon become a regular part of the day at North Smithfield High School thanks to a senior project that aims to bring a working greenhouse to the school grounds. Evan Gravel, a senior at NSHS, is constructing the greenhouse later this month for his senior project. The structure will be located behind the high school, where students and teachers will have easy access to it for science lessons and other projects.

Woonsocket, N Smithfield students head back to school full-time

3/31/2021 Prom, graduation plans in the works After a long year of distance learning, the end is finally in sight for students who spent part or all of the past year learning from home. The Woonsocket Education Department announced a plan last week to bring students back to class five days per week. With the exception of kindergarten and pre-K students, who are already back to school full-time, students have been on a combination of fully distanced and hybrid learning schedules all year. Next Monday, April 5, students in grade 6 at Woonsocket Middle School and grades 9 and 12 at Woonsocket High School will return to in-person learning five days per week. Next Tuesday, they’ll be joined by grades 1 and 2. Elementary school students will attend school four days a week through early May to allow students who chose to continue distance learning to come into the school for testing on Mondays.

(Breeze photos by Robert Emerson) NORTH SMITHFIELD – A group of parents at North Smithfield High School are determined to give their children the senior sendoff they deserve. Kim McCauley and Beth Beecy are two of the coordinators behind a new initiative by parents of NSHS seniors. The group is working with the school administration to plan activities for the Class of 2021 with the goal of spreading positivity and fighting the isolation brought on by the pandemic.

Parkinson s run will honor NSHS student s grandmother

NORTH SMITHFIELD – For her senior project, Hailey Hurteau, a senior at North Smithfield High School, decided to take on an issue close to her heart. Hurteau is organizing a virtual 5K to raise money for Parkinson’s Champions, an organization that supports research and empowering those living with Parkinson’s disease. Her grandmother, Elizabeth Dexter, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s before Hurteau was born. “She’s just always been my motivation since day one, and I’m very lucky to still have her in my life,” she said. “I want to do something to support her and make her proud.”
