According to a news release from the Department of Public Health District 2, which includes Forsyth and 12 other counties in northeast Georgia, the department recently reached the milestone and is averaging over 11,000 vaccines given per week over the last eight weeks.  “We have a committed group of public health employees who have persevered through Covid-19 testing and vaccination while continuing to deliver services to our communities,” District Health Director Dr. Zach Taylor said in a news release. “With the vaccination effort, we expanded our full-and-part-time workforce, partnered with nursing programs in our area, and deployed our volunteer base to make this possible.

COVID-19 cases continue to drop in North Georgia System facilities COVID-19 hospitalization numbers within the Northeast Georgia Health System are now the lowest they have been since October. As of yesterday, 68 hospitalizations were reported throughout the system’s facilities, compared to 335 on Jan. 8. The last time the numbers were that low was Oct. 7. In addition, there are 23 available ICU beds at the Gainesville hospital and four at the Braselton hospital. As for vaccinations, 10,990 vaccines have been administered to employees and 13,256 have been administered to the community. FoCo4Frontliners initiative created to thank all 3,200 employees at Northside Forsyth Hospital The Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce recently launched a new initiative to say “thank you” to the county’s many healthcare workers. Starting with Northside Hospital Forsyth, the Chamber is hoping to raise enough money to give each of the 3,200 employees a special gift to show their appreciation.

FoCo4Frontliners project unveiled to recognize health care workers This week the Forsyth County Chamber launched the FoCo4Frontliners project. COVID-19 showcased the courage and dedication of many in our community, but perhaps the most critical and self-sacrificing of all are Forsyth County’s frontline medical personnel.  FoCo4Frontliners was created to thank the brave members of our health care sector, beginning with the 3,200 employees at Northside Hospital Forsyth. The FoCo4Frontliners fund will provide each employee with an official FoCo4Frontliners T-shirt. These shirts have been approved by Northside Hospital administration to wear at work. Additionally, the project strives to provide as many staff members as possible with Visa gift cards to show appreciation to these individual healthcare workers. 

Grimes updates Forsyth County commissioners on vaccine distribution

This is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. So just because [we have] our volunteers, we may not be able to use them at the events like last week and this week, we’re in this for the long haul, and we’re going to continue to support public health going forward,” Chris Grimes said.

On Tuesday, Jan. 19, Forsyth County hosted its first public vaccination event at First Redeemer Church. Chris Grimes, director of the Emergency Management Agency in Forsyth County, has been working with the District 2 Public Health to find ways that local residents could help distribute the vaccine to those currently eligible. District 2 Commissioner Alfred John (left) oversees the vaccination distribution at First Redeemer Church on Tuesday, Jan. 19. District 4 Public Service Commissioner Lauren Bubba McDonald Jr. (right) obtained his first round of vaccine on Tuesday as well.
