EPCOR receives grant to build reclaimed water pipeline PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Water Resources has awarded EPCOR USA a $250,000 grant to help build a new reclaimed water pipeline for the benefit of San Tan (formerly Johnson Utilities) customers, agricultural water users, and the San Tan Valley region. This supports water management goals in the Phoenix Active Management Area by reducing demand for groundwater pumping. Under the terms of the Lower Colorado Basin Drought Contingency Plan (DCP), Arizona stakeholders agreed to offset Central Arizona Project water reductions to agricultural users by making alternate sources available. EPCOR is the only private water company participating in the DCP Mitigation Agreement.

Hairston, who was appointed to the post by Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette, has served as acting administrator and CEO since September 2020. Before that, he served as chief operating officer at BPA and has worked at the organization for 29 years in various roles. In this role, Hairston will lead BPA, the Pacific Northwest’s Federal Power Marketing Administration. It generates about $4 billion annually, provides roughly 27 percent of the electric power generated in the Northwestern United States, and maintains more than 15,000 circuit miles of high-voltage transmission line.
