Jim Shannon Republican-American The Connecticut State Colleges and Universities board of regents voted Thursday to approve a program aimed at helping community college students complete courses necessary to their progress in the system. The Alignment and Completion of Math and English model, or ACME, expands support for students who enroll at the state’s community colleges unprepared for college-level math and English classes, which are two of the required courses to obtain an associates degree or to transfer.

Preston  Jim Corley has spent his first month as the town’s new public works manager driving through town and getting to know its roads and bridges, making notes of road and drainage problem spots and overhanging trees that could come down in a storm. Corley, 36, is the first to fill the newly created position of public works manager, an enhanced role for the head of the Public Works Department upon the retirement of former longtime highway foreman Bob Boyd. “I am excited about the position, being new,” Corley said this week. “Anyone who got this position would have the opportunity to take the position and run with it and make it their own.”
