Children’s Advocacy Center seeks donations Many people participated in the Children’s Advocacy Center’s first annual road race in 2019, raising $15,000 the first year. This year, the center had to hold a virtual event because of the pandemic and raised$5,000. The center is asking for end-of-the-year donations.  CONTRIBUTED PHOTO Modified: 12/31/2020 4:14:20 PM GREENFIELD The Children’s Advocacy Center of Franklin County and North Quabbin was not able to hold its annual Hope and Healing Breakfast or its Race Against Child Abuse road race this year because of the pandemic, but it remained open anyway. Executive Director Irene Woods said as 2020 comes to a close, the center is looking to those who would have attended the two events, along with others who might not have donated in the past, to “make a generous donation” to the center so it can continue to remain open to offer children a place to tell their story and begin their journey of healing.

Unfortunately, it also glorifies binge drinking and overuse of alcohol, suggesting that alcohol is a necessary ingredient to letting loose and having fun. This should stop. Our country is in the midst of a well-documented addiction crisis that has enormous public health consequences. The show features news anchor Anderson Cooper being egged on by Andy Cohen, who, over the course of the evening succeeds in getting Anderson to drink more and more alcohol, as the hours tick closer to midnight. Anderson and Andy also hand off to other locations where other television journalists are also imbibing to excess.

J. Gare Parking Garage in downtown Northampton. The man’s name was not being released, and the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office would not comment on the circumstances behind the death. DA spokeswoman Mary Carey would only say that no foul play is suspected. The five-level garage is located between Old South Street and Hampton Avenue, and connects to Thornes Marketplace. Scam alert: ‘It’s all about making a quick buck’ DAVID SULLIVAN Modified: 12/16/2020 4:38:52 PM The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office is warning against a sharp rise in reported calls from scammers identifying themselves as an employee of the Hampshire and Franklin county sheriff’s offices demanding payment for court charges. Scammers have been known to identify themselves by name, stating they work in the Civil Division, and then threaten people over the phone by saying they have broken the law by not reporting for a federal grand jury. “The best thing to do is to hang up, if anyone demands money, payment with gift cards or threatens you,” Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan said in a statement.
