Phillips Excels with Youth Success

MUSCLE SHOALS - Current Northwest-Shoals Community College student, Jayden Phillips, has taken his experience with the Youth Success Pre-Apprenticeship Program and used it to propel himself into a job with Constellium and a spot in the NW-SCC Alabama FAME program.  According to NW-SCC Youth Success Program (YSP) Coordinator, Ken Loveless, Phillips was the first YSP participant to receive his full Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) Certified Production Technician Certification.  “Jayden is truly one of our YSP success stories,” said Loveless. “He has taken the support system that we offer our students and taken full advantage of the opportunities it has helped open for him.”

Nature trail, outdoor classroom reopen in Alabama town of Phil Campbell, 10 years after devastating tornado Ten years to the day after the storm, the Cecil Clapp Nature Trail and outdoor classroom is open again.  A reopening ceremony took place April 26 at the revitalized outdoor classroom, which is now named in honor of former NW-SCC science instructor Joe Mack Alls. The Cecil Clapp Trail is  named in honor of a former forestry instructor at the college. “We are so glad that, with the help of our community partners, we were able to revitalize this unique part of our campus,” NW-SCC President Glenda Colagross said during the ceremony.
