GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. Guilford Technical Community College is working to help end a truck driver shortage and get people employed.
According to Labor Department data, the trucking industry now has about 80,000 fewer drivers compared to 2019.
Last fall, the college introduced a new Commercial Drivers License training program. Nine out of the 11 December graduates are already working. Each student completed a 320-hour course with 22% of their course work in the classroom and the remaining 78% on the driving range and/or on the road.

MVA temporarily suspending in-person services statewide

GLEN BURNIE, Md. – In accordance with new measures announced by Governor Larry Hogan to help slow the spread of COVID-19, the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration is implementing a two-week suspension of in-person services at all branch offices and Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program stations.
This suspension will begin on Monday, December 21st, with all branch offices and VEIP stations reopening Monday, January 4th. All previously scheduled appointments during this time will be rescheduled, and customers will be contacted by phone or email.
Customers who are due for emissions tests from December 21st through January 2nd will be given a 30-day extension from their due date.
