Current HOME. Image Courtesy of Anna Protasevich Going out twice per month, our curated selection of Best Unbuilt Architecture submitted by our readers highlights inventive conceptual approaches and designs. Showcasing projects from all over the world, this article puts together several programs, from houses to master plans. Moreover, it presents winning proposals from international competitions, buildings in progress, and creative concepts. In the housing category, the roundup features an underground bunker-like house plan in Ukraine, a suspended glass structure cabin in Portugal, a complex of residential units in France, and a site-less, style-inclusive reinterpretation of the vertical housing block. In addition, a playful commercial building in Iran, a WWI memorial in Serbia, and an extension for the Glasgow School of Art join the selection, with their imaginative architecture and out of the box ideas.

Ulupinar Textile Headquarters Showroom / Zemberek Design

© Ibrahim Ozbunar Text description provided by the architects. To detach the users from the chaotic city life was intended by enriching the experience with fluid circulation which is created with preferring organic forms in construction elements and the feeling of serenity that accompanies. Also, flexible usage of the custom-designed movable furniture modules procures the variable space perception and perspectives in the project, which was designed by Zemberek Design for a well-established textile company, Ulupınar Tekstil. © Ibrahim Ozbunar The showroom areas are designed to host fashion designers of retail brands. By focusing on the designers who are the main users, it was aimed to create alternative working setups that would allow visitors to own the space as their office.

We Are Knitters Store / Mazumdar Bravo

© Nestore Taking the commitment to sustainability further, the pop-up store was also designed to be nomadic rather than a wasteful, one-off exercise. The sturdy elements that make up the store were designed to be flat-packed, allowing them to be dismantled and reassembled with ease in other locations. Even the boxes in which everything is transported were created with this idea of nomadic retail in mind. We Are Knitters first pop-up was in Paris, but there are plans to set up shop for a few months at a time in New York, London, Berlin, and Madrid. Cortesía de Mazumdar Bravo

Greenhouse Orchid Punta del Este / Mateo Nunes Da Rosa

© Marcos Guiponi Text description provided by the architects. In times of pandemic, Ana, a botany-enthusiast specialised in orchids, turns her hobby into a venture: Greenhouse Orchid, and entrusts us with designing a greenhouse that also acts as an exhibition space. The proposal is a transparent, transportable, modifiable prototype that generates the necessary climate for the survival of the orchids. Two greenhouses are manufactured, one for exhibition and the other for flowering. © Marcos Guiponi Orchids require a microclimate within a very specific range. The temperature, lighting, humidity, ventilation, irrigation and nutrients of the environment must be controlled.

Carner Barcelona Perfumery / Jofre Roca arquitectes

© Adrià Goula For the exhibition spaces, the furniture has been designed in a way that serves both for exhibition and storage. It has careful lighting and a triple function of lighting for the packaging / corporate image, the different flasks on display, and the surrounding space. Slots to hide porcelain tasters were incorporated into the display shelf. The lighting in the premises has been designed in such a way that it is not present. In this way everything is well lit, emphasizing where appropriate to revalue the spaces and to display the product, which takes center stage in the exhibition area.
