NASA has selected four new flight directors to oversee operations of the International Space Station, the agency announced.
These individuals join an elite group of 101 people who have worked in Houston s Mission Control Center leading flight controllers, engineers and other professionals at NASA and its international partners.
“Our flight directors are at the forefront of everything that humans do in space,” NASA Flight Operations Director Steve Koerner said in a Monday news release. “We place a huge responsibility upon them individually to take any necessary action to ensure the safety of our astronauts, the safety of the spacecraft, and to accomplish the mission. These four join a storied group of individuals. We’re excited to have them
Humanity has entered the era when space exploration is no longer achieved through government-backed hardware alone. We already have a privately-made spacecraft taking people to the International Space Station, and if all goes well, a second one will be joining it soon.
