It didn t dissuade some of America s biggest companies and richest donors from helping to fund his inauguration. Many of them opened up their checkbooks for Biden’s inaugural committee, helping him raise more than $61 million to fund his largely virtual festivities. The list included companies with major business before the federal government on everything from taxes to regulations such as Uber, Lockheed Martin, Comcast, AT&T, Bank of America, Pfizer and Qualcomm, all of which gave the maximum $1 million.

Mary Altaffer / AP A man has been arrested after he allegedly walked into a manager’s office in a New York grocery store and opened fire, leaving one person dead and injuring two others. The incident happened at the Stop & Shop store in West Hempstead on Long Island just after 11 a.m., police said. The Nassau County Police Department identified the suspect as Gabriel D. Wilson, 30. Police said Tuesday afternoon that he had been arrested after not immediately being caught. Commissioner Patrick J. Walmart to build up full-time store workforce

Two-thirds of U.S. hourly retail associates to have full schedules by fiscal year-end Walmart is working to shift more of its hourly store associates to full-time status. Plans call for two-thirds of Walmart U.S.’ hourly store roles to be full-time by the close of its 2022 fiscal year at the end of January, the Bentonville, Ark.-based retail giant said Wednesday. Announcing the move in a blog post, Drew Holler, senior vice president of Walmart U.S. people operations said the transition will represent “meaningful investments in our associates’ pay, hours and stability.” He noted that about 53% of Walmart’s U.S. hourly store workforce held full-time posts in 2016 and, with the planned shift, the company’s stores will have approximately 100,000 more full-time positions versus five years ago.

State AGs Ask Eighth Circuit to Keep Tyson Foods COVID-19 Death Lawsuit in the State Court 4 hours ago State attorneys general argued in a brief on Monday in the Eighth Circuit that a lawsuit alleging that Tyson Foods Inc. is at fault for its employees deaths related to the COVID-19 pandemic should be heard in the state courts. The governments agreed with the petitioners and the district court that the case should be heard in the Iowa District Court for Black Hawk County.  The lawsuit was remanded to the state court by Judge Linda R. Reade of the Northern District of Iowa in late December, following Tyson’s efforts to move the case to the district court and the plaintiffs motion to remand, which was filed in late August.  Tyson quickly appealed the district court’s decision, claiming that because of President Trump’s executive order relating to meatpacking companies the lawsuit addressed federal questions. Brian Kersey/Getty Images Former state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias is taking an early lead in fundraising in his bid to succeed Jesse White as Illinois secretary of state, adding $1.4 million to his campaign war chest less than a year before voters will decide which Democrat they want to move on to the general election. “Without the ability to hold in-person events or engage in retail politics, our campaign adapted early on to embrace non-traditional strategies and digital platforms to navigate and overcome these challenges,” Giannoulias said in a statement. “Our ability to successfully pivot has paid off as we’ve exceeded our goals and put the campaign in a strong position moving forward.”
