US President Donald Trump’s administration on Thursday blacklisted Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi Corp (小米) for alleged military links along with the nation’s third-biggest oil company over its drilling in the South China Sea, part of a final push to ratchet up pressure on Beijing before US president-elect Joe Biden takes office.
Xiaomi was one of nine firms added to the US Department of Defense’s list of Chinese military companies. Other firms include state-owned planemaker Commercial Aircraft Corp of China Ltd (中國商用飛機有限公司), which is central to China’s goal of creating a narrow-body plane that can compete with Boeing Co and Airbus SE.

New OTT Airlines makes maiden flight from Shanghai to Beijing

The OTT Airlines, a newly-founded subsidiary business run by China Eastern Airlines (CEA), made its maiden Shanghai-Beijing flight.
The flight was completed by an ARJ21, the first turbofan regional passenger jetliner produced by China, which is able to carry as many as 90 passengers.
The ARJ21 airliner features comfort of trunkliners. Compared with jets of similar type, the ARJ21 has a wider and higher cabin that comes with18 rows of ultrathin seats. The seat pitch, recline angle and width are comparable to those of the in-service narrow-body aircraft run by the CEA.

China Eastern Airlines Corp. Ltd., completed its maiden passenger flight on Monday with a Chinese-made ARJ21 as part of its plan to utilize domestically built planes, bolstering the nation’s main commercial aircraft-maker as it seeks to challenge international behemoths such as Airbus SE and Boeing Co.
Short for One Two Three, OTT Airlines flew from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport to Beijing Capital International Airport, according to a statement on China Eastern’s website, with the majority of flights to eventually be operated with planes like the ARJ21 and the C919. Both of these planes are made by state-run Commercial Aircraft Corp of China (COMAC), with China Eastern adding that it expects to scale up operation of these planes by 2030.
