KOTA TINGGI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has detained 34 merchant ships for anchoring illegally in Johor waters since launching Op Jangkar Haram on March 24.
Johor MMEA director First Admiral Nurul Hizam Zakaria said that 12 vessels were detained for harbouring illegally off Johor over a 10-day period that began on April 8.
He said that the latest vessel is a Bahamas-registered cruise liner which was spotted near here by a MMEA patrol unit at around 12pm on Saturday (April 17).
KOTA TINGGI: A Liberia-registered tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been detained for anchoring illegally in Johor waters near here.
Johor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director First Admiral (Maritime) Nurul Hizam Zakaria said the vessel was detained at 9.15pm on Tuesday some 14.9 nautical miles northeast of Tanjung Balau.
“The vessel was spotted by a patrol boat during an operation to check illegal anchoring in eastern Johor waters.
“A total of 21 crewmen aged between 20 and 65, were on board.
“They are from the Philippines (nine), Ukraine (four), Russia (three), Croatia (two) and one each from Germany, Latvia and Georgia, ” he said in a statement yesterday.
KOTA TINGGI: A Liberian registered vessel carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been nabbed by the authorities here for anchoring illegally in Johor waters.
Johor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director First Admiral Nurul Hizam Zakaria said that the vessel was detained at about 9.15pm on Tuesday (April 6) at about 14.9 nautical miles northeast of Tanjung Balau, Kota Tinggi.
“The Liberian registered vessel was spotted by a Malaysian maritime patrol boat in an operation to eradicate illegal anchoring in eastern Johor waters.
“A total of 21 crewmen who were between the ages of 20 and 65 were found onboard where nine are from the Philippines, four from Ukraine, three from Russia, two from Croatia and one each from Germany, Latvia and Georgia, ” he said in a statement here on Wednesday (April 7).
