Processors have hiked edible oil prices to Tk 153 per litre, over a 6 per cent increase from the current price.
Now, consumers will have to pay Tk 9 more than the existing price of Tk 144 to buy a litre of branded canned soybean oil.
As per the new rate, the price of five-litre branded bottled soybean oil has been fixed Tk 728, Tk 43 up from the current price of Tk 685, while the price of loose soybean oil at Tk 129 per litre, Tk 7 up from the existing price rate.
However, the price of loose palm oil has been reduced to TK 112 per litre from Tk 113.
Soybean oil prices rise Tk 9 per liter
The price of soybean oil was hiked by Tk 9 per liter on Thursday amid coronavirus pandemic.
In a press release, Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Vanaspati Manufacturers Association said that the prices of soybean oil was hiked by Tk 9 a litre.
The prices of soyabean oil went up earlier before the Eid-ul-Fitr.
The association said that it proposed for increasing Tk 13 per liter to the government. However, the Ministry of Commerce approved increase of Tk 9 per liter on Thursday. 2021-05-27

The government on Thursday allowed edible oil refiners to increase the price of soya bean oil by Tk 9 a litre to Tk 153 a litre.
On May 3, the government allowed them to increase the price of soya bean oil to Tk 141 a litre from Tk 139 a litre before Eid-ul-Fitr, celebrated on May 14, and to Tk 144 a litre after Eid.
The Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Vanaspati Manufacturers Association in a press release on Thursday said that the one-litre bottle of soya bean oil would be sold for Tk 153 from Saturday while the five-litre bottle would be retailed at Tk 728.

The consumers will now be able to buy a litre of edible oil at Tk 141 as the refiners and manufacturers have reduced the price by Tk 3 per litre.
Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Vanaspati Manufacturers Association took the decision today following the request of the commerce ministry.
The refiners and manufacturer revised the prices of the necessary cooking ingredient eight days after they raised the prices by Tk 5 per litre.
The association has decided to give a discount of Tk 3 per litre at the request of the Ministry of Commerce, considering the purchasing limit of consumers during the holy month of Ramadan and the Covid-19 pandemic, it said in a press release.
