The Memphis-based carrier restricts employees from carrying cell phones in some work areas. Indianapolis television station WISH reported numerous people expressed concern they could not phone family and friends employed at the FedEx facility shortly after news broke of the fatal shootings.  Asked about the no-phone policy, Jim Masilak, FedEx Services media relations manager, on Friday morning emailed a statement to The Commercial Appeal affirming the policy. FedEx s one-line statement says: “To minimize potential distractions around package sortation equipment and dock operations, cell phone access within certain areas of FedEx Ground field operations is limited to authorized team members. At the FedEx facility, the shooter took his own life after eight people were killed and several wounded, police said.
