Emergency siren test slated for Monday | News, Sports, Jobs

May 1, 2021 The monthly test of the statewide outdoor warning siren system and the live audio broadcasting system will be conducted at 11:45 a.m. Monday, the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency announced. All warning sirens will sound a one-minute tone used to alert the public during emergencies, along with a simultaneous test of the live audio broadcast system. There will be no exercise or drill accompanying the test. Tests of civil defense sirens and the Emergency Alert System normally take place on the first working day of the month. In the event of a real emergency, the public is advised to check local radio, television and/or cellular Wireless Emergency Alerts for information and instructions. The wireless alert system delivers sound-and-text warnings to compatible mobile phones.

ShakeAlert app goes live May 4 in Washington By Dave Haviland, The Daily World Published: April 28, 2021, 7:58am Share: The state is rolling out a new early warning system for earthquakes in our area and the Washington Emergency Management Division is hosting a free webinar to detail the new technology. Operated by the U.S Geological Survey in cooperation with the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network, the ShakeAlert® system is capable of giving residents seconds of warning before earthquake shaking arrives, and most phones are already setup to receive the alerts. Maximilian Dixon, Geologic Hazards Supervisor for Washington Emergency Management Division, explains that the ShakeAlert® Earthquake Early Warning system will go live in Washington state on May 4, completing the West Coast roll out of the new technology.

It still looks like we will have to deal with two potential rounds of storms…an early Saturday morning round with a northward moving warm front, then a potential round of afternoon storms.
