A few weeks after Xiaomi announced its revolutionary wireless technology Mi Air Charge, Oppo has debuted its own version of this futuristic tech. At MWC Shanghai 2021 Tuesday, Oppo teased its wireless charging solution, which is aptly dubbed Wireless Air Charging, alongside the first device that supports it.
For its official video demonstration, the Chinese Android OEM also showcased its X 2021 rollable smartphone concept. Engadget says attendees at the venue can view the working prototype at Oppo’s booth. Based on the clip and actual hands-on testing, the handset can be wirelessly charged both on and off the surface.
In late January, Xiaomi unveiled its Mi Air Charge Technology that charges multiple devices simultaneously without the need for cables or a wireless charging stand. Now, OPPO has announced something similar with its Wireless Air Charging technology. Yes, we are heading towards a wire-less wireless charging future.
At MWC Shanghai, OPPO took the stage to showcase its OPPO X 2021 concept phone with OPPO’s new Wireless Air Charging technology. The said tech can deliver up to 7.5W of charging power with no cables or charging stands.
OPPO’s Wireless Air Charging technology uses magnetic resonance technology. It lets your device begin charging as soon as it is within 10 cm of its charging mat. The one upside of this tech is that you can use your device while it charges wirelessly at 7.5W. In contrast, Xiaomi’s Mi Air Charge technology works even when the phone is a few feet away. However, it is likely to take years to arrive in mass markets.
Oppo has teased a new wireless charging solution that appears to work in mid-air. It’s been shown off in a 30-second clip on its Weibo page with the Oppo X 2021, its rollable concept phone announced last year.

Just like Xiaomi, OPPO tech seems to be true wireless charging as the device continues to charge even after lifting it from the charging mat a few centimeters above.
At the MWC Shanghai Booth Number N2-E40, it explained that the Wireless Air Charging tech can go up to 7.5W of charging power. As for the distance, OPPO says that a user can take the device up to 10cm distance from the charging mat to continue charging.
